Introduction
Dynateq International is a recognised leader in the defence industry, delivering advanced solutions across land and naval domains. We are a dynamic, forward-thinking organisation committed to innovation, integrity, and sustainable growth — both locally and on the international stage.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, strategically minded Business Development Lead to join our high-performing team. This is not an entry-level role — it is a position for a seasoned professional who can independently drive growth strategies, navigate complex sales cycles, and make a measurable impact across targeted defence markets.
If you have the technical credibility, commercial acumen, and relationship-building skills to represent Dynateq at the highest levels, we want to hear from you.
Purpose of the Role
The Business Development Lead is responsible for leading and executing business development strategies that drive sustainable, long-term growth across Dynateq's targeted markets. You will take full ownership of pipeline development, market expansion, and strategic planning — working in close collaboration with engineering, operations, and senior leadership to translate commercial objectives into tangible business outcomes.
Job description
Strategic Planning and Execution
- Develop and execute market entry strategies, country campaign plans, and proposals for new market penetration
- Track, analyse, and report on pipeline performance, market trends, and business development outcomes to senior leadership
- Act as a strategic thought partner and subject matter expert within the business development function
Market Research and Oppertunity Identification
- Conduct in-depth research to identify emerging trends, customer requirements, and untapped opportunities within the land and naval defence sectors
- Gather and analyse competitor and market intelligence to continuously refine and adapt business strategies
- Evaluate and prioritise new opportunities, assessing strategic fit and commercial viability
Client Engagement and Relationship Management
- Build and sustain meaningful relationships with key clients, government stakeholders, and senior decision-makers
- Conduct thorough client engagements to understand technical requirements and propose tailored solutions
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the sales and project lifecycle
Technical Solutions and Proposal Development
- Translate complex technical features into compelling, value-driven client propositions
- Prepare and present high-quality technical and commercial proposals, quotations, and bid documentation
- Collaborate with engineering teams to address technical queries and present solutions clearly and persuasively
Sales and Contract Negotiation
- Identify and develop leads, converting opportunities into successful agreements through tailored, customer-centric solutions
- Lead contract negotiations, ensuring terms are commercially sound, compliant with industry standards, and aligned with customer requirements
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with engineering and operations to align business development activities with project timelines, resource availability, and delivery capabilities
- Drive product localisation strategies and support new product introductions in emerging markets
Representation and Brand Positioning
- Represent Dynateq at trade shows, exhibitions, and client meetings — locally and internationally
- Consistently and compellingly communicate the company's value proposition across all platforms and engagements
Minimum requirements
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Electronics, Computer Engineering, Business Management, or a related field (a postgraduate qualification will be advantageous)
- 3–6 years of experience in business development or technical sales within the defence or engineering industry
- A proven track record of independently driving market growth, winning new business, and managing complex sales cycles
- Demonstrated experience in developing campaign plans, managing senior client relationships, and negotiating contracts
- A strong technical understanding of defence products — particularly weapons or weapon systems in the 7.62mm to 30mm calibre range (advantageous)
Skills and Competencies
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical ability to identify, evaluate, and act on growth opportunities
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders
- Technical proficiency to understand and articulate complex defence solutions with credibility
- Self-driven, results-oriented, and capable of working with a high degree of autonomy
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., IFS) and proficiency in Microsoft Office
- High ethical standards, strong confidentiality principles, and a natural ability to build trust
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively, both locally and internationally
