Introduction
Reunert Limited is seeking a visionary and commercially astute Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead the governance, oversight and execution of the Group's information technology environment. This is a senior executive opportunity for a proven technology leader who thrives in a complex, multi-entity environment and is passionate about driving digital transformation, AI enablement and technology risk excellence.
Reporting directly to the Group Chief Financial Officer, the Group CIO will be responsible for ensuring the reliable, secure and cost-effective delivery of the approved IT strategy, digital and AI initiatives. The role carries Group-level assurance and technology risk oversight responsibilities, while enabling alignment, consistency and effective delivery of technology services across all Business Units.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring that technology positions the Group competitively in an increasingly digital and AI-driven landscape.
Job description
Strategy Execution
- Execute the Group's IT strategy through the setting and implementation of related business goals
- Oversee material technology programmes and strategic transformation initiatives
- Act as the Group point of coordination for Business Unit CIOs and Heads of IT
- Drive alignment on architecture principles, integration approaches and best practice sharing across the Group technology community
Governance & Risk Management
- Establish and maintain Group-wide IT governance frameworks, ethical standards and policies
- Set and oversee minimum cybersecurity standards and controls, ensuring technology risks are properly managed
- Ensure compliance with applicable governance frameworks and regulatory requirements, including POPIA
- Implement and test disaster recovery, business continuity and cyber resilience capabilities
- Provide assurance to Exco and the Board on the Group's technology risk posture, data protection compliance and cyber resilience
- Partner with Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit and Legal to ensure IT control findings are tracked and remediated
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Enablement
- Establish Group-wide data governance frameworks, standards and accountability models
- Define governance principles for the responsible, ethical and compliant use of artificial intelligence
- Oversee AI risk assessments, model governance and regulatory compliance
- Provide assurance to Exco and the Board on AI-related technology risk
Strategic Partner Management
- Oversee strategic relationships with key technology service providers and digital partners
- Ensure commercial optimisation, contract governance and service performance across major technology agreements
- Drive procurement standardisation and leverage Group scale for cost efficiencies
Financial Management
- Provide Group-level oversight of IT spend, capital allocation and major contracts
- Drive cost transparency, optimisation and elimination of duplication across the Group
- Ensure technology investments deliver agreed strategic, operational and financial benefits
Minimum requirements
- Demonstrable experience as a CIO, IT Executive or similar senior leadership role, with 10 years in IT management
- At least 5 years at executive or C-suite level, with governance committee exposure
- Proven experience in IT operating model transformation within a complex, multi-entity or group corporate environment
- Demonstrable experience with King IV/V IT governance obligations in a JSE-listed company or equivalent
- Deep understanding of IT commercial models, vendor management, Microsoft EA and cloud strategy
- Track record of material IT cost optimisation
- Solid experience with cloud computing, data analytics, SaaS solutions and emerging technologies including AI, machine learning and blockchain
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity, data management and data protection practices
- Relevant qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field (a Master's degree will be advantageous)
