Introduction
The purpose of this role is to design, develop, and deliver high-quality mechanical solutions, including
protection system components and manufacturing tooling. The role ensures compliance with applicable
standards, manages design risks, and contributes to continuous improvement across projects and
engineering teams.
Job description
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Design & Execution
• Conceptualise, design, simulate, prototype, assemble, and test mechanical components and
assemblies.
• Develop detailed engineering documentation (calculations, models, BOMs, specifications, reports)
• Apply relevant standards, manufacturing processes, and internal systems.
• Create and maintain standard design procedures.

Mechanical Design & Tooling
• Design mechanical components and assemblies for electrical protection products within the CBI
portfolio.
• Design manufacturing tooling, jigs, fixtures, and assembly aids.
• Conduct simulation and structural/thermal analysis as required.

Design Review, Quality & Risk Management
• Conduct design and documentation reviews.
• Perform failure analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate design risks throughout the product lifecycle.
• Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews.
• Support certification and regulatory approval processes.
Leadership & Collaboration
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians.
• Delegate work effectively and support team development.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including Quality, Manufacturing, Procurement,
Project Management, Suppliers, and Sales.
• Communicate project progress, challenges, and solutions clearly.
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
• Drive process improvements, standardisation, and cost optimisation.
• Support lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

Minimum requirements
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng, BSc (Eng) at NQF Level 8).
• Demonstrated competency and passion in Mechanical Design.
• Master's Degree in Engineering (Advantageous).
• 3–10 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in product design, tooling, or electromechanical systems.
• Proven ability to manage projects independently.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng, BSc (Eng) at NQF Level 8).

Experience Requirements
• Mechanical Design Engineering: Minimum 4 years.
• Project Management Exposure: Minimum 2 years.
• Product Lifecycle Exposure: Minimum 1 year.
• Experience in a similar product-design environment: Advantageous (2–3 years).
• A relevant Master’s Degree counts as 1 year of experience.
