Introduction
Reunert is seeking a Tax Specialist to provide high quality assistance in tax compliance, accounting, and reporting; supporting mitigation of tax risks; and providing tax advice for Reunert Group of Companies in South Africa.
Job description
Tax Compliance:
- Prepare and submit income tax returns for Head Office entities in line with current tax legislation and conduct ongoing compliance checks to ensure full adherence to income tax requirements
- Review income tax returns for the business units of the Reunert Group of companies, ensuring compliance with current tax legislation and conducting ongoing checks to maintain adherence to income tax requirements.
- Prepare and review provisional tax returns for the Reunert Group of companies and oversee the paragraph 19(3) process with the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
- Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of dividends tax returns for the Reunert Group of companies.
- Provide guidance in all matters relating to income tax related to the business.
- Consult, liaise with, and manage tax work performed by external service providers to ensure that income tax, VAT, customs, R&D, transfer pricing, and other relevant tax matters of the Group are addressed efficiently and effectively
- Proactively identify and mitigate tax risks by analysing interrelated issues, assessing their impact, and developing and executing effective resolution plans.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to optimise or change existing tax processes, systems, policies and procedures.
- Support the development of tax mitigation plans, coordinate and monitor the implementation thereof.
- Manage and respond to SARS audits, including: 1) Preparation of supporting documentation 2) Engagement with SARS 3) Resolution of queries, disputes, and Voluntary Disclosure Programme (VDP) applications.
Controls and Procedures:
- Ensure that appropriate financial controls are in place to produce accurate and timeous - monthly, interim and year-end financial results. Financial controls include those as specified by the Internal Financial Reporting Controls (IFRC) program.
- Ensure that all critical spreadsheets are maintained in accordance with the group requirements and meet the necessary IFRC controls.
- Assessment of IT General Controls (ITGC) within the tax function.
Tax Reporting:
- Deliver high-quality tax accounting and reporting, including the accurate calculation, review, and disclosure of deferred tax.
- Ensure the accuracy of tax calculations for South African Group companies for Group reporting purposes, including: 1)Semi-annual reporting; 2)Budgeting; 3)Forecasting; and 4)Provisional tax payments.
- Ensure that tax reconciliations are performed, reviewed and accurate. These include: 1)tax general ledger accounts; and 2)processing journal entries relating to tax and reconciliation to SARS statements.
- Review of reconciliations related to assessed losses.
International Tax and Transfer Pricing:
- Prepare Controlled Foreign Company (CFC) tax computations.
- Compile, prepare and analyse the Country-by-Country report.
- Prepare and review the Local and Master transfer pricing files.
- Support transfer pricing policy making and regional execution.
- Understand differences in tax systems in different countries and advise on tax related implications on transaction per transaction basis.
General:
- Coordinate project actions and monitor progress, keeping stakeholders informed of the status.
- Create visibility of tax function through projects and initiatives.
- Prepare and review presentations – tax technical content determined by the needs of the business.
- Respond to ad hoc VAT, customs and PAYE queries and provide guidance and advice to the business units as required.

Minimum requirements
The suitable candidate should have:
- CA(SA)
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting or Finance
- Post graduate studies in taxation an advantage
- 2 – 3 years’ experience in relevant consulting or in-house tax department
- SAICA, SAIT, SAIPA or SAIBA registered
Skills Requirements
- Demonstrate experience in advising on domestic tax legislation
- Strong tax technical skills
- Up to date knowledge in IFRS
- Knowledge and experience in VAT will be advantageous.
- Experience in opinion writing will be advantageous.
- Experience in working with people across all levels
- Good working knowledge of ERP systems
- Good MS skills
