About the Role
Are you passionate about technology and looking to build a career in the telecommunications industry? We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Field Services Installer Assistant to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of microwave communication systems at various sites nationwide.
In this hands-on, outdoor role, you will work closely alongside experienced technicians and installers, gaining invaluable industry knowledge and skills while contributing to the successful delivery of projects. This position requires physical stamina, a strong willingness to learn, and comfort working at heights in various environments.
Job description
- Assist the lead technician in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of microwave communication equipment
- Support the proper setup and alignment of microwave antennas and associated hardware
- Assist in conducting site surveys to gather necessary information prior to installation
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on microwave systems as directed
- Ensure all installations are fully compliant with safety protocols and company standards
- Document and report accurately on the status of installations and maintenance activities
- Assist with equipment testing to verify full functionality following installation
- Maintain and organise tools, materials, and equipment required for field operations
- Communicate professionally and effectively with team members and clients throughout installation projects
- Assist in the preparation and transportation of tools, materials, and equipment to job sites
- Be available for standby duties with the team leader after hours and over weekends when required
Minimum requirements
- NQF Level 4 qualification or equivalent (technical or vocational training will be advantageous)
- Prior experience in field services or the telecommunications industry is preferred
- Basic knowledge of microwave communication systems is an advantage

- Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Fully computer literate – ability to conduct online training, complete reports, and assist with basic troubleshooting
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment where applicable
Other Requirements
- Valid South African driver's licence and reliable transportation
- Willingness to travel to various sites across the country and stay over as required
- Ability and confidence to work at heights (e.g., towers, rooftops, and elevated structures)
- Must hold a valid Working at Heights Certification (or be willing to obtain one)
- Additional certifications such as First Aid and Firefighting will be advantageous
- Must be willing to pass a background check and drug screening prior to appointment
